IN-Home  BEHAVIOR SESSIONS

It’s not just you. It’s not just your dog. In most cases, it is a variety of factors that are causing problems and behavioral issues with your dog.

Do you have a concern about your dog’s behavior? Is your dog aggressive with other dogs or with people? Does your dog bark incessantly inside or outside of the home? Is your dog suffering from separation anxiety? Does he have a history of biting? Is your dog anxious and nervous in certain situations? Are walks becoming a burden due to unruly reactive behavior?

These are not uncommon behaviors and with the right support and tools, we can make significant changes in your dogs behavior. We can come to your home or work with you at our training facility to evaluate your dog’s temperament, ask questions and find the right solutions and improve your dog’s behavior. Owner commitment is half the battle, leave the rest up to us and see the results you are looking for!

Dog’s Best Friend Training was founded by Patricia McConnell Ph.D., known worldwide as a leading expert on animal behavior. We combine advanced training in ethology and psychology to develop humane and effective treatment plans for problem dogs. Our consultants have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with dog training and dog behavior problems.

Any issue can be addressed in an appointment, but more common problems include:

  • aggression (toward family members, visitors or unfamiliar people, other dogs or animals)
  • resource guarding
  • anxiety (separation or generalized)
  • sound phobias (thunderstorm, etc.)
  • barking
  • destructiveness
  • fear/shyness
  • housetraining
  • hyperactivity

Most appointments are done in your home. Sessions for serious behavioral problems usually last about 1.5 hours.  The initial session includes questions about when the problem started, when it currently occurs, and what you’ve done so far to try to change it. After the interview we’ll work directly with your pet and then discuss diagnosis, prognosis and what a treatment plan would entail. We will get you started on the treatment plan during the session.

For some problems, one session is all that is needed. For more serious issues, at least one or two follow up appointments or enrollment in one of our dog behavior classes is critical to your success. We will clearly outline a plan and explain our recommendation.
